Profiles : Liz Watson
Following university, Liz spent several years conducting research on the causes of poverty and undernutrition in India and Sri Lanka. After further post graduate study she moved into NHS management in London, where she worked in a range of organisations including the Department of Health, specialising in strategic planning and information. Liz emigrated to Australia in 1992 where she worked in the public and social enterprise health sectors in general management and consultancy positions. Liz successfully worked with clinical teams and consumers to implement organisational and system wide change, which was often catalysed by the adoption of technology.
She returned to England in 2000 to take up a strategic post within a health authority where she lead a number of initiatives to redesign the local health system. Liz has experience of strategic planning for delivery of system wide solutions in long term conditions, primary care, consumer consultation and service reconfigurations around acute care.
Liz has spent the last seven years facilitating and leading the planning and implementation of social enterprises to support transformational change; facilitating cross sector system wide change in health and social care; and leading service reviews in the NHS. Liz has completed two turnaround roles in the voluntary sector as interim Chief Executive.
She is a Department of Health mentor to social enterprises and an Assistant Director with the Independent Reconfiguration Panel. Liz is a trustee of Voluntary Action Stoke-on-Trent.
